First Presbyterian Church of Hammond (FPCH) partners with St. Joseph Catholic Church in downtown Hammond to feed the homeless and less fortunate. Though St. Joseph is the main location for the noon meals, FPCH offers its facilities several times throughout the year to provide the meals to the homeless and needy. Meals at FPCH are prepared and served by church members and volunteers. At various times, pre-approved outside groups and organizations are offered the opportunity to prepare meals and assist in serving the homeless and other guests in need.
In addition, members and friends of FPCH travel to St. Joseph Church on the fourth Monday of each month to provide, prepare and serve meals to those in need. Beyond the St. Joseph program, several FPCH members prepare and serve lunches once monthly at the Rescue Mission in Hammond. These outreach programs have helped bring congregational members and others from the community into closer friendships and relationships.
Church members Marylou Crowley and Okey Curry coordinate the activities for FPCH. The remaining 2018 dates for serving meals at the church are Independence Day (July 4), the week of July 9-13, Labor Day (September 3), Thanksgiving (November 23-24), Christmas Eve/Day (December 24-25), and New Year's Eve/Day (December 31-January 1).
