The Reverend Michael (Mike) Pennanen came to First Presbyterian Church in December of 2014, after serving nine years as the full-time spiritual counselor of a local hospice. Pastor Mike has previously served as pastor of churches in Arkansas, Michigan, and Highland, Indiana. He received his BA (sociology) from the University of
Michigan and attended McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago, where he earned his Master of Divinity degree.
Pastor Mike believes that Christian faith calls on us to make a connection with others, whether by responding to personal hurts and hopes or engaging with the needs of our community and world. He’s pleased to be the pastor of a church where members not only care about each other, but also reach out beyond the congregation to assist people in need through various donations and ministries of service. Our pastor is also keenly interested in building bridges and relationships between people of various backgrounds and outlooks. He is active with a group of religious leaders (Christian, Jewish, Muslim) who aim to build greater understanding among people of different faiths in our community.
Pastor Mike loves music, enjoys reading, and likes to keep learning new things. He is married to Valerie, who teaches at a local college. Their two children are young adults.
Debbie Marinaro is the church secretary and bookkeeper. She has worked at the church for the past 10 years. She is in the office daily from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Organist Yvonne Schut knows how to bring out the full array of musical colors that our pipe organ produces. She has played for our worship services for many years and performs regularly for our community concerts. Yvonne also teaches art at a Christian school.
Besides keeping our building and grounds clean and maintained, custodian Tim Johnson makes himself available to help with various building needs as they come up. Before his current position, Tim was the assistant manager of a Duke of Oil shop and the manager of an Valvoline Express Care shop.
